The stories keep piling up, at an alarming rate.

And reading the individual tales of heartbreak adds to the collective sense of dread at what?s coming next.

Former Chargers and 49ers linebacker Steve Hendrickson is suffering from a host of cognitive problems that he relates directly to his football career.

?I can remember material I had before the concussions,? Hendrickson told Howard Yune of NapaNews.com. ?Twenty years ago seems so clear to me, but yesterday seems just ?- far away, foggy.?

That short-term memory loss is among a host of problems for the 45-year-old Hendrickson, who hasn?t been able to work for six years, and was divorced a year ago.

He was mostly a special teams player in the NFL, and earned a reputation for toughness at an early age. But playing through a separated shoulder in a high school game is one thing. Playing through more serious injuries may have put him in his current position.

Hendrickson estimated he sustained at least 20 concussions while playing football at Cal and in seven years in the NFL. But he said there were never many questions along the way.

?They never even questioned you, and I never questioned it,? he said. ?They?d tell me how I got [the concussions] but never said it was some bad thing or that I should sit out. And when you cover kickoffs like I did, you?ll get a few, especially with the helmets they had then.?

Hendrickson, whose career ended in 1995, said his problems began in his 30s, when his memory began to fail and he?d go through ?these states where I?d be comatose two or three days, unable to move.?

While the Social Security Administration accepted his disability claim in 2007 citing trauma-related brain damage, he?s been frustrated by the NFL?s pension plan, which designated him disabled by ?non-football causes.?

Asked if his football career was worth it, Hendrickson said: ?Living the life, it wasn?t a great life. You?re a piece of meat, there one day and gone the next. And it might cost you your brain.?

So far, he?s not among the thousands of former players joining concussion-related lawsuits. But there are enough tales like his, not all of them on a court docket, to realize this is a looming storm for the NFL.

Local soccer coach accused of molesting student

Jorge Muniz, 29 (El Paso Police Department)

El Paso police arrested an area soccer coach Thursday on a charge of being indecent with a 16-year-old girl who was one of his students.

Many parents and several of coach Jorge Mu?iz's students voiced their support for the coach, who once played for the El Paso Patriots.

Police said Mu?iz, 29, of Horizon City, turned himself in to police Thursday after learning he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest on a charge of indecency with a child.

Mu?iz owns Jorge Mu?iz Goalkeeper Academy and offers private soccer lessons to boys and girls. The alleged incident occurred in May.

Police said the victim had been taking soccer lessons from Mu?iz.

After his arrest, Mu?iz was booked into the El Paso County Jail. He posted $25,000 bond

early Friday morning and was released.

On Friday evening, Mu?iz and a group of parents were scheduled to meet at Hawkins Park, 1500 Hawkins, but Mu?iz left the meeting soon after he arrived when reporters showed up to get reactions from the parents.

Many parents said they were shocked at the allegation against Mu?iz, while other parents declined to speak to the reporters.

The El Paso Times featured Mu?iz, a former professional goalkeeper in Texas and Mexico and a native of Monterrey, Mexico, in a story Thursday about his academy. In the story, Mu?iz said 35 students between the ages of 6 and 20 are enrolled in the academy, which has been open for about a year.

Mu?iz's attorney, Joshua Spencer, called the allegation "100 percent not

true."

"It's just outrageous," Spencer said Friday. "He's an outstanding member of his community and an exemplary athlete who coaches kids and has been very successful at that."

Spencer said that so far, neither he nor Mu?iz knows the details of the allegation or which student accused him. Mu?iz has yet to be indicted.

"Indecency with a child -- that can be almost anything," Spencer said. "Until we have an indictment, we don't know exactly what the allegation is."

One of Mu?iz's close friends, Alejandro Martin Del Campo, attended Friday's parents meeting and defended Mu?iz, whom he described as a strong person and a family man with two children of his own. Del Campo also said Mu?iz cares for Del Campo's 4-year-old daughter.

"There is a reason why he turned himself in," Del Campo said but declined to elaborate. "From my understanding, he will be cleared."

Police think that, because of Mu?iz's access to children, there may be other victims. Anyone who may be a victim is asked to call police at 832-4400.

(AP) ? Dale Fjordbotten is a proud "My Little Pony" fan, with the shiny blue body suit and yellow lightning bolt, blue wings and blue tail to prove it.

Like many "Bronies" ? boys and men who like the cartoon "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic"? the 25-year-old college student turned out over the weekend for "BronyCon Summer 2012" at the Meadowlands Exposition Center, which drew 4,000 men, women, boys and girls, many in colorful wigs and costumes.

"I thought about what people would say. 'It's creepy. It's weird. It's a ... show for little girls,'" said Fjordbotten, from Staten Island, N.Y. "It's just a great show ... the story line, the plot, the beautiful animation."

Bronies say they're a misunderstood lot who've gotten a bad rap from the media. They're all about the show, friendship, love and tolerance, and they have no bad intentions, they say.

"I discovered that there's nothing to be ashamed of being a Brony," said 19-year-old James Penna of Mastic in Long Island, N.Y. "People are into what they're into."

Outside the convention center, young men danced and sang along with songs from My Little Pony cartoon that blasted from loud speakers as a video screen on a large truck showed the show's characters. One observer said it almost felt like a Grateful Dead concert.

Inside, vendors sold stuffed ponies, pony accessories, pony signs, pony hats and just about every pony item imaginable. Stars who do the show's voices signed autographs and gave speeches.

Staff appeared to be a little overwhelmed at times. It was just over a year ago when BronyCon attracted about 100 people to some meeting rooms in New York City. Now there are thousands of Bronies across the country.

Hasbro released the first My Little Pony toys in 1983, and they led to television specials, a film and the first TV series from 1986 to 1987.

The brand stuck around through the years. But along came animator Lauren Faust, who was hired by Hasbro and sparked new life to My Little Pony when she created the "Friendship is Magic" series.

Faust had worked on "The Powerpuff Girls" and "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends" before dreaming up the land of Equestria, where My Little Pony characters like Twilight Sparkle, Apple Jack, Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie get into all kinds of adventures.

Faust told The Associated Press at BronyCon on Saturday that she never imagined the show would be such a hit with teenage boys and young men. She said her main target was little girls, but she hoped to draw in moms and perhaps some boys with strong characters and compelling story lines.

"We live in a society where saying that something is for girls is the equivalent to saying that something is stupid, or saying that something isn't worthwhile," Faust said.

"I think that's awful and I think that kind of attitude needs to be changed," she said. "And these men are doing it. ... They're proud that they're forward-thinking and modern enough to look past this misogynistic attitude."

Faust said she, like the Bronies, is disturbed at the negative images some people have about men who like the show.

"There are a lot of people who when they first hear about men watching a show for little girls, they're taken to a creepy place," she said. "They think there's something wrong with that, something devious about it. I think that's unfortunate.

"I don't think you have to have bad intentions to like little girls or to like the things that they like," Faust said. "And it's upsetting to me that people jump to those conclusions. I think it's unfair to men and I think it's unfair to girls and women."

To set the record straight about Bronies, Faust, John de Lancie and others are producing a documentary that filmed over the weekend at BronyCon. De Lancie is the voice of Discord on "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" and is perhaps best known for playing "Q'' on "Star Trek: The Next Generation."

Zac North traveled from his hometown of Dayton, Ohio, to be with fellow Bronies in New Jersey this weekend. He dressed as his favorite character, the antagonistic Discord, wearing a hooded and multicolored costume complete with a dragon tail, since Discord is a pony-dragon hybrid.

Why does he like the show?

"It's colorful and innocent, which is something I don't have in my life," the 26-year-old Sam's Club worker said. "I like the community away from the show."

Twenty-year-old My Little Pony fan Gabby Pantaloni of Hershey, Pa., said she was kind of shocked that so many guys like the show, as she stood in a line at BronyCon to get her picture taken with other enthusiasts dressed like her favorite character Rarity.

"After watching the show, I could see why anyone of any age would like it," she said. "I think it just makes us all feel like kids again. Some of us are afraid of growing up. We're all just kids at heart."

Velocity Micro ProMagix HD180 Max

The Velocity Micro ProMagix HD180 Max ($6,995 direct) is a professional-class workstation built for speed. In this incarnation, it's a niche product, made for video editors and other video pros. With other components, it can be tuned for CAD, math, and 3D rendering as well. The HD180 Max comes with a six-core Intel Core i7 processor, lots of speedy DDR3 memory, SSDs, an Nvidia Quadro graphics card, and an Nvidia Tesla GPU coprocessor card. All of it together will make Premiere Pro fans happy.

Design and Features
The ProMagix HD180 Max is built into one of Velocity Micro's larger chassis. As such, it has the room inside for the Intel Core i7-3930k processor (and huge air cooled heat sink), 32GB of DDR3 memory (and room for more), two 120GB SSDs, 2TB hard drive, Nvidia Quadro 4000 graphics card, Nvidia Tesla C2075 GPU coprocessor card, Blu-ray burner, and the 1,200W power supply. The case door is windowed, so you can see into the system and show off the extra Nvidia Tesla coprocessor card. Aside from the window, the rest of the system looks every bit the professional workstation.

The visible Quadro graphics card and Tesla GPU coprocessor cards are your visual cues that the system means business. Inside the chassis, there's a bunch of room left over for up to two more Tesla cards, as well as another graphics card (at least physically). The system can accommodate two more hard drives and two more optical drives, and thankfully there are four free SATA ports on the motherboard. Outside, the system can be connected to quite a few peripherals with the eight USB 2.0 ports, two USB 3.0 ports, and a FireWire 400 port. You can add a PCIe card for more USB 3.0 ports, but it would've been nice to have more than two. Thunderbolt is notably missing, but the motherboards with built-in Thunderbolt ports are somewhat scarce, as are add-on cards. This particular configuration is appealing for the same type of users that will welcome the added speedy external storage found in a Thunderbolt drive, i.e. video editors and mastering folk.

The desktop came free of any bloatware, as is usual for Velocity Micro's custom built PCs. You really don't want to have to deal with uninstalling extraneous software when all you want to do is work on editing and transcoding your Citizen Kane. The system we reviewed came with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, the Nvidia drivers for the GPUs, and that's about it. The system comes with a 1-year standard warranty, which is a bit short for such an expensive system. You can purchase an extended warranty at added cost, but workstations from the competition like the single-processor workstation Editors' Choice Dell Precision T1600 ($2,185 direct, 4.5 stars) come with a three-year warranty standard.

Performance
Velocity Micro ProMagix HD180 Max The reason you buy a workstation is for performance and reliability. The reliability is covered by the 1,200W power supply and the professional-grade Nvidia cards. The Nvidia cards also provide a performance boost, particularly on tasks that take advantage of GPU optimization like the Mercury Playback Engine (MPE) built into Adobe Premiere CS5.5 and CS6. MPE uses the system's RAM, the GPUs in the Quadro and Tesla cards, and Nvidia's CUDA programming language to speed tasks that would otherwise be time consuming. For example, using the PPBM CS5.5 benchmark test run in Premiere Pro CS6, the ProMagix took only 5 seconds to complete the standard MPE-optimized test. The high-end Velocity Micro Raptor Z90 ($4,999 direct, 3.5 stars) without a Tesla co-processor, which took a much longer 43 seconds. This task is a huge argument for adding the Tesla co-processor to an (relatively) inexpensive non-Xeon processor. The test file was only minutes in length, so imagine the difference if you were mastering a multi-hour-long documentary.

The HD180 Max was quite fast on our regular multimedia benchmark tests as well. The system took a scant 1:06 to complete our Handbrake video transcode test and 2:49 to complete the Photoshop CS5 test. This is faster than the dual Xeon processor-equipped Lenovo ThinkStation D20 ($9,344 direct, 4 stars) (1:19 in Handbrake, 3:09 in Photoshop) as well as the current Editors' Choice Dell Precision T1600 (1:13 in Handbrake, 2:57 in Photoshop). It's no slouch on day to day tasks either, as the HD180 Max's 5,474 point score on PCMark7 was one of the highest we've recorded for any PC. In fact, the HD180 Max won most of the benchmark tests when compared with other professional-grade workstations.

The Velocity Micro ProMagix HD180 Max is an excellent professional workstation for video editors in particular, and graphics arts professionals in general. It comes highly recommended for the type of user that will take advantage of the GPU processing power, like users in the indie film scene working to meet a release date. However, for more enterprise-based users in mainstream Hollywood, we still recommend the high-end workstation Editors' Choice Lenovo ThinkStation C20 ($4,618 direct, 4.0 stars), ThinkStation D20, and their ThinkStation cousins for their enterprise-friendly serviceability, ISV certifications, and IT connections.
